Hypnotherapy Uses Positive Suggestion to Reverse Negative Feelings about Weight
The theory behind hypnotherapy and weight loss is that many of us may have issues regarding our weight and physical appearance that are embedded within our subconscious mind, issues that we ourselves may be largely unaware of. Hypnotherapy, under the guidance of a trained hypnotherapist, is designed to use positive suggestions to reverse or correct these negative feelings toward our weight, and also offer healthier options for eating and living well.

Studies Show an Advantage to Dieters Given Hypnotherapy
In one study conducted over two decades ago, one group of dieters were given hypnotherapy, while other group dieted on their own. The follow-up study two years later showed that the hypnosis group continued to show positive results of weight loss and maintenance, while the others did not lose any more weight, or had gained it back. Another similar study comprised only of women showed that the hypnosis group lost an average of 17 pounds as opposed to a mere half pound in the non-hypnosis group.

Still Many Myths about Hypnosis
The practice of hypnosis has been unfairly portrayed for decades in movies and television, although more and more people are realizing the many benefits of this particular type of therapy. Nevertheless, there are still many myths and falsehoods associated with the practice of hypnotherapy and whether or not it's beneficial for weight loss, as well as the myriad of other conditions, habits, or ailments it's commonly used for.

Here are the three most common myths and facts about hypnosis that may alleviate any concerns you have if contemplating using hypnotherapy to aid weight loss.

Myth: Hypnosis involves being "put to sleep" or having a loss of consciousness.

Fact: The exact opposite is true as being in a state of hypnosis is more akin to a state of heightened mental alertness due to the extreme relaxation that's experienced.

Myth: You aren't able to remember what's been suggested or said while being hypnotized.

Fact: This is completely false as a person who is under hypnosis is totally aware of what's being said as well as what's going on in their surroundings. For weight loss, hypnotherapy involves focusing on eliminating misconceptions about dieting, improving one's body image, and instilling positive replacements for these negative thoughts.

Myth: When being hypnotized, the therapist is control, rather than the person themselves.

Fact: This is also false, as a person who is being hypnotized won't do anything against their will, or without their own conscious knowledge and consent.
